“In everyday life, I feel the need to hide my body shape and wear larger clothes,” she says, reflecting on her journey.
Interestingly, when Levi's first launched the Curvy line, she was a student at the University of Cape Town, completing her Bachelor of Commerce in 2018.
The politics of desirability
Nomzamo aims to challenge curvaceousness politics in South Africa: “The definition of curvy is very broad, but in the fashion world it can range from small to medium to large. I'm always thinking about how I'm creating a dialogue with women and what positive effect that can have,” she says.
She believes her position at Levi's is revolutionary in changing the way people think about denim.
“I don't like belts. This technology was developed to solve a global problem. There are women all over the world with different body types, and Levi's caters to that.”

What's her favorite style?

To young girls who struggle with insecurity or try to hide their shape in oversized clothes, Nomzamo says: “Your body is a vessel you were given to be in this world. Take care of yourself, but at the end of the day, use your power. We are all different people, but as you grow, you will realise what you have is special. Protect yourself.”
She also noted the potential for over-sexualization in society and stressed the importance of families and communities protecting girls.
“When you're young, don't let what people say to you determine your self-worth,” she advises.

“We need to be kinder to one another, challenge harmful conversations, and change how we view weight and body size politics.”
