Aston Villa manager Unai Emery wants to add the Europa Conference League to his European trophy collection.
The Spaniard has won the Europa League four times with Sevilla and Villarreal and has a chance to win silver in Europe's third-tier competition.
Villa must survive a tough last-16 match against Ajax in the first leg in Amsterdam on Thursday (17:45 CET).
“I have a lot of respect for the European competitions,” said Emery, whose Villa team is fourth in the Premier League.
“We are playing against Ajax, who we played in the semi-finals of the Champions League five years ago.
“In the Champions League, we reached the semi-finals against Spain's Villarreal. We also played in the Europa League and won. I appreciate European football in all competitions, and now I want to enjoy the conference league.”
“If we play here with two teams like Ajax and Aston Villa, it's good for both teams.
“European football has always had prestige. The competition started two years ago and has been won by Roma and West Ham, both prestigious clubs.”
Ajax, whose team includes England international midfielder Jordan Henderson, finished fifth in the Dutch Eredivisie, and after losing twice 2-0 against Brighton, they finished third in their Europa League group and fell to the Europa Conference League.
