South African Communist Party general secretary Solly Mapaila accused ANC leaders of lying publicly that they had consulted the party's alliance partners on a national unity government.
The South African Communist Party (SAPC) accused the ANC of holding secret talks with the Democratic Alliance (DA) in March about forming a coalition government well ahead of the May 29 general election.
“These things were being handled and planned in secret. Back in March, we knew that secret discussions were taking place with the DA,” said SACP general secretary Solly Mapaila. He spoke to participants at a meeting of the Police and Prison Civil Rights Union (Popcle). on tuesday.
“We raised concerns about why there would be secret negotiations in the middle of an election campaign.”
Mr Mapaila said in a speech to the British South African Chamber of Commerce in London last week that most of the local business community “really wants us to do one thing and that is to support the DA Federation”. He referred to comments made by Chair Helen Gill. Stand up Cyril Ramaphosa and protect him,” appealed from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and Jacob Zuma’s Umkhonto Wisizwe party.
The SACP accused Mr Ramaphosa and other pro-business figures in the ANC of rushing to form the DA and the Government of National Unity (GNU) to win the approval of big business.
Mapaila said on Tuesday that the ANC had lost massive support in the May 29 election, losing a full majority for the first time since the first democratic vote in 1994.
“However, within a short period of time, we have been dealt another major blow by the current choice of the ANC to form a coalition with the DA, a right-wing neoliberal anti-National Democratic Revolution, anti-people organization and reactionary force.” said. .
Mr Mapaila said Mr Ramaphosa had tried to placate elements within the ANC that opposed cooperation with the national unity government, using the pretext of inviting other parties to discussions on the national unity government.
“They are hiding this deal with the DA in the name of GNU.” Helen Zille, none other than a key partner in the ANC, confirmed this question. , says the real problem is that there is a coalition between the ANC and the DA.”
Mapaila said the police represented “a continuation of counter-revolutionary policies in our movement.”
“We have said that we never want the ANC to colonize our country through the back door, we will never accept colonization in any form,” he told delegates at the Popkur conference. .
“I can hear the ANC leaders trying to justify that they consulted us, but it is an insult for them to say that to us, and to publicly say that they consulted the audience. We are forced to say this to our members because they continue to lie. We were never consulted on this matter. They must not lie on this matter. Hmm, that's not fair.
“We have to take out our gloves and hit hard because our revolution is selling out while we watch. As a regional party we will not allow that.”
The ANC accused Mr Mapaila of inappropriately speaking publicly about internal issues that should have been raised within the alliance's affiliates.
“Five ANC officials, including the president, vice president, secretary general, deputy secretary general and national chairman, attacked me for saying they disagreed with the GNU,” he said on Tuesday.
He said Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi should be “protected” from the fallout of the province's ANC decision to exclude the DA from the provincial unity government.
“It is clear that we must protect Panyaza.” [Lesufi] And we must also tell the DA to get out of Panyaza, even cooperation between elements within the ANC, what use does Helen Gill have with ANC affairs, from Panyaza? Are you going to back out? ” Mapaila said.
“They now think they are in charge and in control and are even telling the ANC leadership what to do.”
Popkuru chairman Thulani Ngwenya said a national unity government was like a forced marriage that no one wanted, with couples constantly at odds and parties too different to work together effectively. .
