Former African National Congress (ANC) vice-president Clema Motlanthe is seeking an explanation for comments she made in 2017 when she said it was a good thing for her party to lose elections.
He has been speaking during an ANC campaign in Ekurhuleni.
Mr Motlanthe said his comments were simply a call on the party leadership to listen to the people's cries and that his comments had achieved that purpose.
“The reality is that in 2017 the ANC was in dire straits and the leadership seemed to have lost the ability to hear the cries of ordinary people, so shock therapy, such as losing an election, was needed to make them listen. “You might need it,” he says. , but I did not express any desire. ”
Motlanthe said: “I was simply appealing to the ANC leadership to listen to the people's cries and be sensitive.'' This message has been heard and the ANC leadership I am confident that you have listened to hear my cry.”
He said he believed the party had rebuilt voters' trust and regained the confidence of the people of Gauteng.
“I am very confident that the ANC will regain confidence, that the regions of the population will vote for the ANC, and the proof of that will be on May 29th. Then there is no need to say much, the result will be It will tell you everything,” he added.
