The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has vowed to regain support lost to former president Jacob Zuma's Umkhonto Wesizwe Party (MK Party) in May's general election.
The party aims to rebuild its branches in the state, but admits they are weak and contributed to the party losing more than 50% of its support.
In recent weeks, members of an ANC team tasked with rebuilding KZN branches through political education have been traveling around the province.
The team, led by President Sibongile Besani, includes party veterans such as former KZN premier Sibusiso Ndebele and former ANC provincial deputy chairman Mike Mabuyakuru.
ANC provincial chairman Siboniso Duma, who recently met with President Cyril Ramaphosa to discuss the organization's renewal program with the ANC KZN leadership team, said efforts to rebuild KZN's branches are making progress. .
“We focus on the development of cadreship and ideology because we understand that some cadres may deviate from the ANC's core values. It replaces profit with a greater focus on the collective goals of the movement.”
According to South African Electoral Commission (IEC) statistics, a significant number of ANC supporters in Msunduzi and eThekwini voted for the MK party in May elections.
The House of Representatives member said a meeting between the ANC provincial leadership and Mr Ramaphosa resolved to intensify the party's rejuvenation efforts in Msunduzi, which falls under the organization's Moses Mabhida region.
As part of this initiative, the MP will deliver the party's renewal address at Pietermaritzburg City Hall on Sunday.
The move comes amid calls from some senior ANC leaders to dismiss the House of Commons and the current Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).
Some members of the ANC National Working Committee (NWC), which recently completed an assessment of KZN's performance, proposed replacing the PEC.
The party's National Executive Committee (NEC) has not yet decided on the future of the PEC.
There were rumors that some ANC leaders wanted a team including Besani, Ndebele and Mabuyakuru to take on PEC responsibility, but ANC provincial spokesperson Mafika Mndebele dismissed these ideas. did.
“What some people don't understand is that those comrades were brought in by the PEC, not by the national leadership. Members of the team are given specific tasks. They is not part of PEC.”
