The African National Congress (ANC) Women's League says it is looking forward to President Cyril Ramaphosa announcing the new ministers and deputy ministers on Friday.
However, he expressed disappointment that only two women have been appointed chief ministers in Limpopo and the Free State.
The ANC was unable to secure a majority to form a national government and is encouraging other parties to form a government of national unity.
The Secretary-General of the Women's League, Nokuthula Nqaba, expressed frustration at the possible setback in women's representation in the seventh government.
“This is a setback. We in the Women's League are certainly disappointed and I think women across the country feel the same. We are disappointed because under the previous government we only had two provincial premiers. I wish the ANC had followed that principle and improved in that area instead of having three premiers instead of two, and possibly more, but we still have to address this issue. The ANC recognises our disappointment but we would like to take up the issue further with ANC officials when the opportunity arises.”
