ANCYL echoed former President Thabo Mbeki's statement that former President Jacob Zuma was a wolf in sheep's clothing. Mr Mbeki spoke at Freedom Park on Tuesday as he reflected on the country's 30 years of democracy.
ANCYL president Koren Malatsi said former president Mbeki had warned him about Zuma before taking office.
Mr Malatsi was speaking at an ANCYL press conference in Johannesburg on Thursday, where the party unveiled its ANC manifesto on youth.
“I don't think anyone knows Mr. Nkandla better than President Mbeki. He was his vice president, so he knows him well. Tina, we are a new generation. We are I did not believe his advice, so I will take his advice. I remember when we were still young leaders of the Causas heading towards Polokwane. We didn't believe him when he said that. We didn't listen. I think he (Zuma) will learn to listen this time because he knows better. We are showing fire to everyone,” Malatsi says.
Meanwhile, SABC News understands that the respondents in the IEC Electoral Tribunal appeal on the Umkhonto Wisizwe (MK) party issue have filed a notice of opposition with the Constitutional Court. This follows the Electoral Commission's urgent appeal to the Constitutional Court against the Electoral Tribunal's order allowing former President Jacob Zuma to be included on the MK Party candidate list.
The electoral body seeks to clarify the correct interpretation of Article 47(1)(e), which was the basis for upholding the challenge against Mr Zuma.
The respondents have filed a notice of opposition to the IEC's emergency application, but have not yet filed a replying affidavit in this regard.
The Supreme Court had directed the defendants to file their affidavits by April 30 after applying for an extension.
SABC News was also due to submit a record to the Supreme Court informing the IEC of its decision in March to uphold a challenge to remove former President Jacob Zuma from the MK party list under Article 47(1) I also understand that. (e).
The IEC must do this to comply with Articles 1 and 2 of Rule 20 of the Court.
