As the show's executive producer, Makolwa said she was involved in all decision-making processes, including casting.
She said she felt empowered by being involved in that way for the first time.
“I was so excited to be in the writers' room. I serve as an executive producer on the show, which means I'm involved in decision-making, from casting to wardrobe.
“It's not always done like this, but it's a very empowering feeling. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world,” she said.
Regarding casting, the author said Nqobile Nunu Khumalo, who plays Lucy in the series, was her first choice from the beginning.
