The visit marks Duchess Kate's return to royal duties after completing chemotherapy treatment.
Kensington Palace announced on Thursday that the Duchess Kate and Prince William made their first public appearance together since Kate finished her chemotherapy treatment.
The couple traveled to Southport in northwest England to help the community recover from the tragic knife attack that claimed the lives of three children in July. They met with emergency workers who attended the scene of the attack, which occurred at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class and left eight children and two adults injured.
Royal family praises 'heroic' counterpart
During their visit, the 42-year-old royals listened to the stories of their counterparts and how the event had affected their mental health. They also met with mental health professionals who are providing ongoing support to emergency personnel. Duchess Kate expressed the gratitude of the victims' families and thanked those who responded, saying, “On behalf of them, thank you.”
William called responders “heroes” and urged them to prioritize their mental health, advising them to take the time they need before returning to work. Kensington Palace emphasized that Prince William is keen to use his experience as a former search and rescue pilot to support emergency workers.

Duchess Kate comforts grieving family
Earlier in the day, Catherine and William met privately with the families of the victims and the dance teacher injured in the attack. Wearing a long brown coat, Kate arrived at the community center and spent some time hugging and comforting emotional attendees.
The visit marks Duchess Kate's return to royal duties after completing chemotherapy treatment, announced on September 9th. In a heartfelt video message, she revealed that she is on the long road to recovery.

The Royal Family's Resilience in Health Issues
Last week, the Duchess of Cambridge met with staff at the Royal Foundation Early Childhood Center and took a step back to work, signaling positive progress in her health.
Her illness overlaps with Charles III's own battle with cancer. The 75-year-old monarch returned to public life in April after undergoing treatment earlier this year. Neither he nor Duchess Kate revealed the specific type of cancer they had.
The week following the Southport attack sparked unrest and riots, spurred by misinformation about the identity of the attacker. A 17-year-old boy named Axel Rudakubana has been charged with murder and attempted murder and is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
