About Brenda Fassey
Brenda Fassie was born in November 1964 and grew up in Langa, southern Africa.
She earned the name “Black Madonna” from her followers. Her singing career began in her childhood, singing in front of tourists with her mother.
Fassie's first performance was as a stand-in for an artist in the band Joy. Soon others noticed her singing voice too. She recorded songs such as “Weekend Special” and shot to international fame.
She was also part of Brenda and the Big Dudes, who supported some of her greatest hits.
“Ag Shame Lovey” was released in 1987.

Brenda has won five South African music awards including Best African Artist.
She is also known for songs such as “Black President,” which was recorded before Nelson Mandela's release. Her song repertoire transcended her borders and made her a well-known and beloved South African artist.
A cover of “I'm So Sorry” appeared in the film Tsotsi, performed by her son Bongani Fassi.

Fassie recorded “Ag Shame Lovey” in 1986.
Part of the album of the same name released the following year. It's about a performer who teaches dance to local children.
