Teenager Luke Littler has downplayed the praise he received from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, describing it as “literally another day in my life”.
Klopp compared the young players who helped the Reds win last week's Carabao Cup to 17-year-old darts sensations.
But Littler, who beat James Wade at the British Open on Friday to reach the last 32, is not riding high.
“I gave it a like and moved on to the next video,” he said.
“It was literally a new day in my life.”
Littler, a fan of Liverpool's arch-rivals Manchester United, said: “I actually watched the final and the young players are doing well, but if he wants to compare them to me he can do that.'' ” he added.
Littler averaged nearly 102, had four 100-plus finishes, and advanced to the fifth round with a 10-7 victory over Wade.
The teenager is the favorite to win the tournament after Michael van Gerwen suffered a surprise defeat to Austria's Mensur Suljovic in the opening round.
Dutchman Van Gerwen, a three-time winner of the tournament, appeared to be suffering from an elbow injury in the 10-7 loss.
Asked about the possibility of winning his first major title since joining the main PDC tour earlier this year, Littler said: “I haven't thought about it, but I know if I can play my game every game.'' But that's not the case.” Let's see why you can't win.
“I don't care who I play. Playing in front of thousands of people every week is a dream of mine. I just work at my pace.”
Other winners on the opening night included world champion Luke Humphries, who defeated Dutchman Dirk van Duijvenbode 10-7, and defending champion Andrew Gilding, who defeated fellow Briton Josh – Beating Payne 10-7, Masters winner Stephen Bunting defeated Danny Louby 10-3.
Nathan Aspinall, who won Round 5 of Premier League Darts at Exeter on Thursday, also advanced to the next round with a 10-6 win over Scott Mitchell.
World No. 5 Gerwyn Price lost 10-9 to Germany's Martin Schindler, with the Welshman missing six darts in a thrilling decider.
Schindler's reward for defeating Price is a five-round match against the teenage Littler. Van Gerwen's conqueror Suljovic will face Dave Chisnall, while world number one Humphries is set to face Denmark's Benjamin Reus.
The first day of the three-day event saw all 158 players take part, with the first four rounds being played across eight stages.
The world's top 32 players entered Friday night's fourth round stage.
