Wales fly-half Callum Sheedy will join his home city side Cardiff from Bristol for the 2024-25 season.
Sheedy's contract expires at the end of this season, so he will not be able to play for the national team unless he moves to Wales.
The 28-year-old has not played for Wales since head coach Warren Gatland returned for his second spell in charge in December 2022.
“I'm really looking forward to it,” Sheedy said.
“I was born and raised in Cardiff and grew up here until I was 16. This is my home and I’m really looking forward to putting on the Cardiff jersey and going out.”
“Of course I am very grateful to Bristol. I feel like an adopted Bristolian and the club has been and will always be a big part of my life. It will continue to occupy.”
“But when you've been somewhere for 10 years, it's natural for things to change.
“Going back to where I'm from, where I'm from, I was really excited when I found out it was possible. In my head I always knew I was going to play for Cardiff, but I didn't know when that would be. Ta.”
Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt said: “Callum is someone I know well from his time at Bristol and is a top quality player and, importantly, a top quality person.”
“He will not only be a great addition to the pitch, but he will also be a great role model to help our young players develop.
“He flourished for Bristol, leading them back to the Premiership in 2014-15 and has since become an integral part of their environment and rugby programme.
“We believe he is a great fit for us because of two key reasons: his success with an excellent program at Bristol and his Cardiff background.
“Thanks to Tinas de Beer, who has been great for us this season, we have two great options at fly-half.”
Sheedy's movements are as follows Cardiff will be acquired by investment group Herford Capital Limited.
The player was part of Wayne Pivac's Wales team that won the 2021 Six Nations title.
Although he could have played for Ireland or England, he made his international debut in 2020 and has won 16 caps for Wales, with his last Test appearance coming in March 2022 in the home defeat to Italy in the Sixers.・It was Nations.
Players based outside Wales must have at least 25 caps to be eligible for Gatland's selection.
The minimum cap limit, reduced from 60 in February 2023, was introduced with the aim of keeping top players within Wales' four regions and giving Wales' head coaches more time to prepare with their squad.
This means Sheedy will have to play for one of Wales' four professional teams next season if he wants to continue his international career.
Gatland appoints Sheedy after being left out of the current Six Nations squad, with Scarlets duo Sam Costelow and Yoan Lloyd selected as fly-half options, as well as Dragons' Kai Evans. There is no guarantee.
Sheedy has been battling a minor knee injury, but Gatland said fitness was not the reason the Bristol player was not selected for this year's tournament.
Gatland is looking to fill the void left by the retired Dan Biggar and the unavailable Gareth Anscombe, while Cardiff are looking to fill the void left by the retired Dan Biggar and the unavailable Gareth Anscombe, while Cardiff are looking to fill the gap left by the departed Dan Biggar and the unavailable Gareth Anscombe, while Cardiff are looking to fill the void left by the departed Dan Biggar and the unavailable Gareth Anscombe, while Cardiff are looking to fill the gap left by the departed Dan Biggar and the unavailable Gareth Anscombe, while Cardiff are more likely to need more after the departures of Jarrod Evans and Rhys Priestland last season. We are looking forward to having the number 10 on the back.
South African fly-half Tinus de Beer has started all 13 games this season after signing in the summer of 2023.
Sheedy was born in Cardiff but only played professional rugby for Bristol after leaving Wales as a teenager to attend Millfield School in Somerset.
