Casper Nyovest reflects on the 10th anniversary of his debut album. Tsolofelo.
The South African rapper took to social media to talk about how the project has taken his career to the pinnacle, earning him numerous awards and accolades.
He said the iconic album is the best-selling hip-hop album of all time and expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported him along the way.
“First of all, I want to thank God for the talent, protection and grace he gave me even when I was in the wilderness. My testimony is true. A boy with a dream and faith in God. We released this album independently with no experience, no wisdom and no money.”
“Little did we know that we were making history and would forever change the foundation of South African music and Africa as a whole. The album won numerous awards and became the best-selling hip hop album of all time. The album sparked debates and became a case study in many rooms. Thanks to this album, the youth of today knew they could do anything in their own rooms, no one would run to a label to get signed and work like a slave.”
Niyovest said the album has inspired him to demand what he deserves from brands, rather than the other way around, which he said was an eye-opener for other artists.
“We changed the structure of corporate partnerships with artists and began to demand our value, not what they gave us. This is the album that laid the foundation for me to become the first African artist to sell out Africa's most prestigious venue, The Dome. We opened a retail store called @family_tree_store that thrived for years but then closed down. Everything flows from this album including my business endeavors including @billiato1 and @rootoffame,” he wrote.
Casper Niyovest continued his message by expressing his gratitude to his manager, his fans and God.
A celebration will be held to mark this milestone.
