Reflecting widespread alarm over the issue, social media users flooded Nyovest's comments section to voice the alarming situation.
Rapper Cassper Nyovest's recent social media posts have sparked a wave of sharing near-death experiences among South Africans.
The acclaimed musician expressed concern and disappointment over the alarming rise in gun violence in South Africa, saying life there had become “painful”.
The post comes in the wake of the tragic shooting of Pretoria-based DJ and comedian Peter Mashata, also known as 'Mushindo' and 'Noisemaker'.
Mashata and an unidentified passenger were driving near Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in Soshanguve early on Sunday night when their car was struck by gunfire.
Nyovest tweeted: “Rest in peace, Mashata Bura Yaka. You were a very kind and sincere person. Sad news.”
Gun violence in South Africa is truly terrifying. These are the children, fathers, brothers and sisters of those who are being killed senselessly. Criminals realize they can do whatever they want and nothing is being done about it. It's sad to see and painful to live in…

He continued: “The gun violence in South Africa is truly horrific. These are the children, fathers, brothers and sisters of people who are being killed senselessly. Criminals can do what they want and yet I realize that nothing is being done about it. It's very sad to see and painful to live in a country that used to be so happy.”
Nyovest, who calls himself a “child of God,'' said: “We are only safe in God's hands. South Africa is a lawless place. It is very sad to see what our country has become.'' It's sad. I don't enjoy being outside of Nuge anymore. I'd rather watch a movie.”

Reflecting widespread alarm over the issue, social media users flooded Nyovest's comments section to voice the alarming situation.
One user wrote: “On February 3, 2023, I almost lost my life when four armed men hijacked me and shot me seven times, but God said their plans were not my plans. By then, there are children who have just lost their mothers.”
Another person described an experience in which he almost got shot. “Two guys almost pulled a gun on me in the garage, and as I was lying there, a co-worker stopped to buy food in that garage and noticed me lying on the ground. I confronted my attackers and claimed that I thought my car had been stolen.”
“Commuting by car is a mission and we are all victims. We just thank God when we get home safely…We really can't live like this,” another said. He also made a comment.
