The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition and the Department of Employment and Labour are key ministries that should be headed by ANC ministers.
Cosatu parliamentary coordinator Matthew Parkes said these were key jurisdictions that affected workers, the economy and working-class communities.
This comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa was reported to have initially decided to give the DA jurisdiction over tourism rather than trade, industry and competition.
“We want ANC ministers to take up these two positions because they will be able to continue and embrace the transformational agenda. They will be able to protect the rights of workers, meet the needs and interests of the working class community, the needs of the economy and also the growth of the economy and business.”
Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa is due to meet with Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhausen this afternoon. The two leaders will try to find common ground on the constitution for the Government of National Unity (GNU).
The two parties have been trading heated words and letters this week.
In his final exchanges, the president indicated his intention to complete negotiations and announce an executive branch this week.
This afternoon's meeting is expected to be a defining moment on whether the DA will become part of GNU.
The DA is unhappy with the six-ministry proposal put forward by the ANC, which now appears to exclude the Department of Trade and Industry.
However, the impasse may provide an opportunity for the ANC to negotiate with other parties.
The second-largest ruling party was trying to prevent the formation of what was called the “End of Days Coalition.”
Steenhuisen will likely keep this threat against the district attorney in mind when he meets with the president later in the afternoon.
