The Gauteng Electoral Commission (IEC) said the counting of results is nearly complete at the Provincial Results Processing Centre in Alberton, with 99 per cent of votes having been counted so far.
The African National Congress (ANC) is still below 40% on 34.2%, followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) on 27.7% and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) on 12.8%.
The Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) party came in fourth with the support of 9.6% of voters.
IEC Gauteng spokesperson Moses Pitso says the count is almost complete.
“Today is the final day. We're 99 percent done collecting the ballots. There are about 250 ballots that need to be scanned. Once that's done, we'll check for any exceptions in states where more than 3.6 million people voted,” Pitso said.
Free State
The Free State became the second province to win all votes in a provincial election.
The ANC maintained a majority of almost 52% in the province.
But that's down significantly from just over 61% four years ago.
DA came in second with 21.85%, up 4% from 2019.
The EFF is in third place with about 13.5%.
Freedom Front Plus (FF+) and MK round out the top five in the state.
