MUMBAI, India (AP) – Krystyna Pišková of the Czech Republic was crowned Miss World in a glittering pageant held in India on Saturday night.
Yasmina Zaitoun from Lebanon was the first runner-up out of 112 contestants at the competition held in India's financial and entertainment capital, Mumbai.
“Being selected as Miss World is a dream come true. I am very honored to represent my country and the values of 'Beauty with a Purpose' on a global platform,” Pishkova said.
After being presented with the crown by the current Miss World, Poland's Karoline Vilawska, Piszkova waved to the large crowd at the Geo World Convention Center and hugged the other contestants.
The event showcased the rich tapestry of India's culture, traditions, heritage, arts, crafts and textiles to a huge audience from around the world. Participants wore heavily embroidered skirts and blouses and danced to popular Bollywood songs.
The beauty pageant is back in India after 28 years.
India's Sini Shetty was eliminated after reaching the final eight. 6 including Reita Faria (1966), Aishwarya Rai (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mukhei (1999), Priyanka Chopra (2000), Manushi Chhillar (2017) An Indian woman won the title.
The 71st Miss World beauty pageant was hosted by Bollywood director Karan Johar and 2013 Miss World from the Philippines, Megan Young.
