Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen has once again criticized the African National Congress (ANC)'s policy of dispatching executives, saying it is hindering the economic development of towns and industries.
He was speaking at a rally in Upington, Northern Cape, ahead of the May 29 general election.
Steenhuisen said the DA's office hopes to win the state outright for the first time or govern it through a coalition government.
“Even if we leave ANC governance, the deployment of cadres will not end. They have wasted money.”
Meanwhile, Steenhuisen says that despite the Northern Cape's mineral riches, its residents live in poverty.
The DA hopes to win control of the state in the May 29 general election.
Mr Steenhuisen is campaigning in the state and urged attendees at a party rally in Upington to vote for the DA.
“Upington is supposed to be South Africa’s tourism mecca. It is in a terrible state due to a lack of investment and infrastructure. The people of the Northern Cape will suffer from the worst unemployment rate in the country, so we will We need to do something about it. These elections offer residents an opportunity to make a difference in their state.”
