The African National Congress (ANC) says it intends to appeal against a Johannesburg High Court judgment that found a February 2023 ruling on the declaration of cadre deployment records to be in contempt.
The court had ordered the ruling party to hand over all records of its senior officials to the Democratic Alliance (DA).
This was made clear in a notice to apply for leave to appeal the April ruling. Following the court's recent finding that the policy is not illegal, the ANC is required to hand over all unredacted records and hard drives and records of all members to IT experts for reconstruction. A grace period of one day was granted.
This came after opposition parties claimed that this policy was at the root of the failures of state-owned enterprises.
The ruling party, which opposed the application, argued that the DA was trying to restrict the right to freedom of expression.
The DA's shadow civil service administration minister, Leon Shriver, accused the ANC of using what he called Stalingrad tactics to delay justice in the matter.
“With the failure of this latest appeal attempt, the ANC continues its desperate Stalingrad tactic of delaying justice in this matter. At least four different courts have now ruled that South Africans have We are passing judgment on the ANC's attempt to cover up its dirty staffing secrets. The ANC needs to understand that the DA will not relent on this issue.
