In Danville, a World War II veteran celebrated his 104th birthday Tuesday, where he was honored at a party and presented with a key to the city.
Arthur Larson's special event was held at Brookdale Diablo Lodge, where he lives with his wife of more than 70 years, Joanne.
Arthur said he was proud to have reached the milestone, but played it cool in front of the camera.
“I'm 104 years old. I think that's a good age to have a party,” he said.
Larson was born in Colorado and served as a U.S. Army quartermaster in New Guinea during much of World War II. After the war, he went into education and was very active in the Red Cross, organizing programs for disabled students.
The Mayor of Danville presented Mr. Larson with a key to the city as part of the festivities.
Arthur's son Eric said his father had always been a great role model.
He has provided our family with unwavering support and love. I always felt that he was proud of me and he made it known to me. I also followed in his footsteps and pursued a career in education myself.
These days, Larson said she still has an active social life and is writing a memoir.
There is one interesting fact about his life. He told KPIX that he attended the first-ever public presentation of a practical television at the Chicago World's Fair in 1933.
