The new speaker of the Western Cape Legislature, Daylin Mitchell, said he was committed to discharging his constitutional responsibilities in the interest of the people of the province.
Mr Mitchell was elected Speaker of the Western Cape Legislative Assembly during the first session of the House of Representatives.
He says he will ensure that the Western Cape Assembly's constitutional responsibilities are met.
“I will ensure that the constitutional responsibilities of the Western Cape Legislature – legislation, administrative oversight and public involvement in parliamentary processes and activities – are fully fulfilment and strengthened. As employer of the provincial legislature's administrative staff, I will work with the provincial legislature's clerk to ensure that members are served by impartial, committed, responsible and well-trained staff.”
