In a recent interview with BBC News Africa, South African music star DJ Maphorisa shared how he fell in love with the amapiano sound, admitting that Nigerian artist Wizkid was his inspiration.
At the time, Foli had just left Karawa Jazzme, where he gained significant experience and explored genres such as Afrobeat and Afrohouse.
During Wizkid's visit to South Africa, the two visited Pretoria, where Foli performed a set.
After his performance, the resident DJ took over and played Amapiano tracks. Foli noted how much Wizkid enjoyed the music and even asked about the sound.
