The so-called “Dr Zulu” is expected to appear in court soon after he was arrested for trying to solicit bribes from patients at Johannesburg's Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.
'Dr Zulu': Fake doctor falls asleep trying to solicit bribe at Chris Hani Hospital
The Gauteng Department of Health said on Monday: statement He warns the public not to fall prey to fake medical workers.
“A person impersonating a doctor has been arrested.” [the hospital] “On Sunday night (February 25), after demanding that the patient's attendant pay R700 to the 'doctor' assisting the patient,” the statement reads.
Members of the public became suspicious when a fake doctor wearing green scrubs and a tag with Dr Zulu's name engraved on it invited them to meet at a pedestrian gate where payment would be made.
“The woman was asked by the security guard and facility manager to provide her Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) registration number and personal identification number, but was unable to do so,” the statement said.
Since then, social media users have been linking “Dr. Zulu” to another famous fake doctor known as “Dr. Matthew” in the comments section. Matthew Rani was arrested by security guards at Johannesburg's Helen Joseph Hospital last year. Tsusa LIVE report.
Rani's lawyer, Dumisani Mabunda, said after appearing in court: “He faces one charge of impersonating a doctor and, as I have already pointed out, his actions were merely for entertainment… “I'm not qualified to be a doctor,” he said.
