- MultiChoice has announced its annual DStv price increase, effective April 1st.
- DStv premium increases from R879 to R929 per month.
- “We believe these adjustments are reasonable given the significant 16% year-on-year depreciation of the rand against the US dollar,” said the CEO of MultiChoice SA. Mark Juror.
MultiChoice will increase the price of DStv from April 1, with two packages seeing above-inflation increases.
- DStv Premium: R929 (up 5.7% from R879)
- DStv Compact Plus: R619 (up 6.9% from R579)
- DStv Compact: R469 (4.5% increase from R449)
- DStv Family: R329 (up 3.1% from R319)
- DStv access: R139 (up 7.5% from R129)
- DStv Access Dee: R120 (4.3% increase from R115)
- DStv EasyView: R29 (no increase)
Two packages, DStv Compact Plus and DStv Access, have undergone price increases that exceed South Africa's inflation rate of 6%. However, DStv Access is getting an introduction to sports in the form of access to content from ESPN, La Liga, SuperSport Variety 4, and SuperSport Blitz channels.
The ADD Movies package costs R79 per month with no price increase, and DStv BoxOffice rentals remain the same at R40 each.
All streaming-only services will maintain their current subscription rates.
To promote its relaunched Showmax video streaming service, MultiChoice will soon rebrand and reprogram one of its M-Net packaged linear TV channels on DStv to feature a curated selection of content available on Showmax. We plan to run the offer and assist with sampling. This includes locally produced series for the Showmax platform, which DStv subscribers can watch on linear channels.
MultiChoice is also introducing what the Randburg pay TV operator calls a “price guarantee” agreement. This ensures that DStv subscribers have a fixed subscription fee for the duration of their contract.
