The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Free State province say they believe the IEC tampered with the results to influence the percentage of votes they could have won. The party increased its support from 12.58% in 2019 to 13.48% in 2024 but claims they have evidence the results were tampered with.
The EFF maintained its third place position behind the African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA). Free State EFF chairperson Mapeule Liphoko said the party had challenged the IEC.
“But we are surprised by the actions of the IEC. We believe they have been infiltrated by members of the ANC and have tampered with the results. As early as yesterday we pointed out a number of irregularities. We are still gathering evidence but some have already been submitted. So we are very disappointed with the actions of the IEC. But the results are very good and we are happy with them.”
The African Congress for Transformation (ACT) has questioned the results of the Free State provincial elections as not accurately reflecting what actually happened in the various constituencies. ACT won every constituency in the Free State province, receiving over 15,000 votes in the elections for provincial parliamentary seats.
The party's provincial secretary, Kgaketla Mokoena, said they had filed a challenge with the national-level electoral commission…
“Remember, the Free State is actually the base of the ACT, so we are not happy with the situation we are seeing there because what is going on in the IEC portal here, we have been given the portal and we can check everything they are recording. It is not a reflection of what is going on in the VDs. For example, what happened in the VD in QwaQwa is quite disturbing.”
