Jenny Risveds ran a smart race, dominating the final lap and crossing the line 27 seconds behind to claim her first Elite XCO win of 2024. XC racing doesn't get any better than this, as close racing was seen throughout all five laps.Lead changes and attacks were spread throughout the nearly 1 hour and 20 minute race.
The trio of Jenny Risveds, Hayley Batten and Sabilia Blank were regulars in the closing stages of the race, but a final lap attack by Jenny Risveds proved insurmountable. Rysveds moved far ahead, leading to a battle for second place between Batten and Blank, but sadly Batten crashed on a loose turn and lost his chance for silver. It was a great day for American racers, with four riders finishing in the top 10, making Olympic selection very difficult.
Following the incredible spectacle of the women's race, the elite race continued as Brazil's fresh course led to some nail-biting tactical racing and it all came down to Christopher Blevins' incredible final lap attack. The boys managed to keep the XC hype alive. Almost three years after his first XCO win in snowshoeing in 2021, the American racer returned to the top in Brazil.
After a tight group held the lead for most of the race, the top runners regrouped and formed a large group of 13 riders heading into the final lap. A few attacks failed to give the rider the lead, but Blevins' great effort up one of the steepest climbs on the course propelled him forward. Despite the best efforts of the following players, no one was able to close the gap until the line gave Blevins the victory by two seconds.
