Nadia Jafta has broken her silence on public concerns about her brother Tariq, who has been accused of domestic violence against his wife Alisha (formerly known as Danika).
Instagram influencer Danica's brother has been at the center of controversy in recent days after her family claimed she was being held under duress.
Tariq, who has two other wives, also made headlines for his homophobic and religious abuse on TikTok.
Explanation of the Tariq controversy
Last month, the family of Tariq Jafta's wife Alisha (formerly Danica) accused him of abusing her and holding her against her will. They also claim he encouraged his girlfriend to cut off contact with them.
This was after she allegedly fled the house with the help of a friend. Danica's “escape” didn't last long, her family said, as Tariq tracked her down the next day.
Tariq and Danika, who have been married for 10 years and have five children, have since repeatedly insisted on social media that there is no need to worry. They also refuted claims made by her family.
However, members of the public, including Danica's family and GBV activist Women for Change, believe she is being held under duress. Danika's family has also expressed concern for Tariq's other two wives.
Nadia Jafsa speaks out
In a post on Instagram, Nadia Jafta talked about her non-existent relationship with her brother Tariq. The influencer initially distanced herself from her family in her statement, which she later deleted.
In the emotional clip, Nadia claimed that she felt inspired to “share my truth” but had previously been unable to do so “out of fear.”
Regarding the allegations against her brother, she said:
“My brother and I don't have a relationship. My mother knows how I feel about him. Proving that I'm different from him has been the theme of my life.
“I'm not talking to my brother. I'm not talking to my mother. For some reason, my mother is oblivious to the fact that my brother needs professional help. Or is she not? Maybe, I don't know.”
Nadia also hinted that she was a victim of Tariq's actions.
She addressed him directly and said: I don't care what you say…I know my truth and how you made me feel and all the trauma you caused me.
“You can't be a bully all your life and not suffer any harm. I no longer feel fear and bullying…You are not responsible for anything.”
