DJ Euphonic claims Casper Nyovest made AKA big
Euphonic caused a stir on social media by claiming that Cassper Nyovest was a legend of his generation.
DJ further stated that the late AKA would not have become as big as it was without Nyovest.
The claim caused a stir on Twitter, but Euphonik was unfazed by the comment and explained why he made the claim.
“#FunFact Some of you may have asked yourself why @casspernyovest, then an unknown and up-and-coming hip-hop act, was being interviewed by Euphonic on #MyHouse, the biggest radio house music show at the time. For context: I was a hip-hop DJ before I fell in love with house music,” he wrote.
“@nakeddj and I used to collect music and DJs together. I went to the same university as HHP and RAU, so we always interacted about music, and Kentphonik remixed “Lefatshe Je.” Did. Please correct me, this is the first time a local house act has remixed a local SA hip-hop act. “To move things forward.”
“I asked HHP who he thought could be featured on a house record and he told me about Casper. We arranged to meet and ended up interviewing him for #MyHouse. Why? ? It’s time to move things forward.”
“The question I asked Casper wasn't about hating him or the genre I love, it was about how to move hip-hop forward. Casper has the talent, the hunger, the talent to move things forward. There was energy, and there was time. I can tell you now… Moving Hip Hop Forward was one of the most important interviews on radio because it was something that motivated Casper, like Casper. Even Aka wouldn't have gotten as big as he did without such a great opponent. Note that most of Aka's hits are house music samples. That's a topic for another day.”
I always smile and nod when I hear comments about it like, “I hope you buy it.” Because that question moves things forward. It was the right question to ask the right person. You don't need to be active in a genre, and you don't need someone to push you to move things forward. Do the best you can with what you have,” Euphonik concluded.
