Fairphone, the Dutch smartphone maker known for its user-repairable smartphones, is bringing its ultra-repairable design philosophy to its “Fairbuds” wireless earbuds. Reputing reports: The Fairbuds have the kind of features you'd expect from a premium earbud. These are noise canceling Bluetooth 5.3 earphones that support wind noise reduction and an environmental noise canceling feature that sets the noise reduction according to the environment. Fairphone's earbuds have six microphones, 11mm drivers, and are water (and sweat) resistant with an IP54 rating. It also supports multipoint connections. This means you can connect your earbuds to two different devices at the same time (like your phone and laptop).
The earbuds have up to 6 hours of battery life and come with a charging case, giving you an additional 20 hours of use between charges. Fairphone also offers iOS and Android apps that allow you to adjust EQ, install firmware updates, and make other changes. Other features include automatic play and pause when you take the Fairbuds out of your ears, capacitive touch controls, and three different sizes of ear tips included.
But the key thing that sets these earbuds apart from the competition is that they're designed to be repairable rather than replaceable. Lost just one earbud? With Fairphone, you can buy just one earbud without having to buy the full set again with a case. Isn't the battery life getting shorter several years after purchase? Fairphone sells replacement batteries to replace the battery in your earbuds or charging case. All in all, the company offers his seven repairable/replaceable components for his Fairbuds. The company also offers his 3-year warranty on his new Fairbuds and says they are manufactured using:
– 70% of all materials used in production are fairly and recycled (fair = ethically sourced).
– 100% of the rare earth elements used are recycled.
– The plastic used in Fairbuds and their charging case is recycled. Fairbuds are currently available only in Europe for 149 euros.
