The Makutu family, who live in Kabokweni near White River in Mpumalanga, are demanding justice for their murdered family member Dan Makutu.
Maktu, a community activist and treasurer of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) branch, was killed on Christmas Day.
A 50-year-old man was shot multiple times just meters from his home.
His sister Carol Nkamble said she didn't know why her brother was targeted.
“We didn't really know because he was busy being a community activist and doing everything. So he stepped on a lot of toes. Like I said, there were water issues and everything. If there's a problem on the road, he'll rush over. , he will be there. But even if there are family problems, he will still be there. If there are problems with the employer, he will be there. Basically, the work he was doing was making more enemies than friends.”
Mr Makuthu was instrumental in highlighting the water crisis in Kabokweni.
He was elected EFF Chapter Treasurer three months ago.
Bonga Masire, an EFF member in the state, said the party had lost a strong soldier.
“We lost a soldier, we lost a brother, we lost an uncle. That's what we called Uncle Dan. So for us, this is a huge shock and this branch and this community This is a huge loss for us and we must not forget about our families. So we are very sorry about this, even if the boots are too big for us to wear now. We will try our best to wear it.
