Bafana Bafana defeated Morocco in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Ivory Coast on Tuesday, January 30th, putting South Africa on top of the world.

SA requests ESKOM to suspend load shedding
However, some are not happy with Eskom's suggestion of load reduction on match day. X users called on the power company and President Cyril Ramaphosa to suspend load shedding, similar to the suspension of load shedding during the Springboks' Rugby World Cup campaign last year.

“Similarly to Die Bokke, please pause load shedding during AFCON.”

Bafana sent the World Cup semi-finalists to a 2-0 win in the last 16 at the Laurent Pokuu Stadium in San Pedro, Ivory Coast.
Second-half goals from Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena secured Bafana Bafana a place to play Cape Verde in the quarter-finals. The match is scheduled for Saturday, February 3rd at 22:00.

Bafana head coach Hugo Bruce said taming the Atlas Lions was “special”.
“I don't have to say I'm very happy,” Bruce said.
“We beat Morocco, but (we're happy) not only because we're in the quarter-finals, but to beat a team like Morocco is special.
“This (Morocco) is a very good team and they have very good players. But I think we did the right analysis and the way we played, the tactics we had were right.”
