World Triathlon has announced that the first World Triathlon Para Mixed Relay Championship will be held on October 20th at the Championship Final in Torremolinos Andalusia, two years after it was held as a test at the World Triathlon Championship Final.
The Board will also award another recognition medal to athletes with intellectual disabilities who will compete in age group competitions at the 2024 World Triathlon Multisport Championships to be held in Townsville, Australia from August 15-25. approved to do so.
The Paratriathlon Mixed Relay has officially debuted on the World Triathlon calendar as an open race for the 2022 Abu Dhabi Finals, with the ultimate goal of incorporating the dynamic new format into the roster of events at all levels, including the Paralympics.
The Paratriathlon Mixed Relay uses similar principles to the highly successful Olympic Mixed Relay at the Tokyo 2020 Games. Each team is made up of four para-athletes, two men and two women. All team members will complete a full super sprint triathlon (non-draft) with a 125-150m swim, 3.5-4km bike, and 0.8-1km run. The total time for a team will be from the start of the first player until the end when his fourth player covers the entire distance.

All athletes wishing to compete at the Townsville Multisport World Championships must meet their national federation's eligibility criteria and follow a standard registration process. Athletes must qualify with their national federation to compete at one of the Townsville Multisport World Championships and go through the normal registration process.
