Bayern Munich could end the weekend 10 points off the top of the Bundesliga after dropping points against Freiburg.
Christian Gunter scored a great 20-yard strike to put the mid-table hosts into the lead.
Bayern thought they had turned the game around thanks to Matthijs Tell's superb curling and Jamal Musiala's place shot after a solo run.
However, in the 87th minute, Lukas Holler volleyed home a point for the hosts.
“We played completely without structure,'' Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel said of the team's performance in the first half. “We were undisciplined. We weren't in our position, we lost the ball going forward and we allowed the opponent to counterattack.
“It wasn't a matter of will, we played really hard for the first 30 minutes.
“We did things we've never trained for or talked about before. We played like it was 85 minutes and we were down by one.”
Bayern are currently seven points behind unbeaten leaders Bayer Leverkusen, with a game against Cologne scheduled for Sunday.
It could end the Munich team's 10-year domination of German football. They achieved a record of 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles.
Due to the poor season, there are already rumors that Tuchel will leave the club at the end of the season.
If Bayern fail to beat Lazio in the second leg of the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday (they lost 1-0 to Roma), they will likely end the season without winning a silver medal.
It was a disappointing night for Bayern's England international striker Harry Kane, who missed several chances and was unable to improve on his record of three goals in two games.
