Singer Tresor has obtained the masters of his first two albums from Vth Season, giving him complete control over the entire body of work.
Many musicians died poor because they could not sign a contract with a record label and own their music.
Award-winning singer-songwriter Tresor has acquired the masters of his first two albums from Vth Season, giving him complete control over his award-winning body of work.
“Obtaining the masters of my early works gives me full control over my catalog, ensuring my legacy is protected and my creative journey continues to be navigated by me. ,” the singer said in a statement.
Owning their masters means artists can license their recordings to third parties, such as for TV shows, commercials, or sampling use by other artists.
If a musician's master belongs to someone else, such as a record label, music producer, or sound engineer, that person has the right to license out the recording (and collect all royalties).

In contrast to most artists who tend to part ways with their record labels, Tresor, who hails from the Democratic Republic of Congo, parted ways amicably starting with the fifth season.

Both albums acquired by Tresor won the South African Music Awards for Pop Album of the Year on separate occasions.
Benza, who signed with Tresor, kindly said: sondera singer, and stated that their relationship will continue.
“We are proud of our journey with Tresor, but we are even more proud that he is in a position to earn his Masters and continue to build on his legacy.”
Vth Season is the same record label that the late rap artist Keenan “AKA” Forbes was signed to.

The Vth Season owner will now assume special projects advisory and marketing leadership roles under Jacquel Entertainment Group.
“We will continue to play a supportive and strategic role in Tresor's musical career as he embarks on this exciting new chapter,” Benza said.
Tresor's own label is VII Recordings, a division of Jacquel Entertainment Group.
In November 2023, Mr Tresor established the R100 million Jacquel Ventures investment company.
The company aims to build and invest in companies that leverage luxury goods, real estate, consumer brands, entertainment and technology.

Orphaned at a young age, Tresor left Goma in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo after high school and headed to Durban in 2007 with the aim of pursuing a professional music career.
He is currently an ambassador for the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund and an ambassador for the United Refugee Agency, which advocates for refugee rights.
