Furious Gayton McKenzie has clapped back at political calls to “stop interfering” in the search for missing child Jocelyn Smith in Saldanha Bay.
This comes after he criticized the DA over promises to increase resources such as helicopters, drones, speedboats and K9 units.
For the past two days, Mr Gayton has stepped back after the City of Cape Town promised financial support.
Gayton McKenzie responds to Jocelyn Smith's criticism with applause
Gayton McKenzie shared his frustration in a Facebook post on Friday, March 1, after criticizing the DA's office's efforts to find Jocelyn Smith.
This comes after political parties pledged to provide resources to assist in the search.
The leader of the Patriotic Union, who claimed to have been accused of “obstruction,” angrily retorted to applause: Joslyn is where we draw the line.
“We want to see the helicopters, we want to see the new detectives and get to know them, we want to see the boats, we want to see the dogs. We want to see the drones.
“We will bring the Western Cape to a standstill for Jocelyn. Don't fool the people. If you want to know our power, keep fooling us with non-existent helicopters, detectives and drones.”
Gayton said he and his colleagues were taking a step back against law enforcement.
He continued: “I told my team to stand back and let the search continue and call for help if requested.
“Moet oz nimal mark” [Dont make us angry]. Show us what you promised. Or look at what we become when provoked.
Progress in Gayton's search for Jocelyn
Over the past few days, Gayton McKenzie has been following various leads regarding Jocelyn Smith's disappearance.
This includes the following claims:
- Jocelyn was allegedly seen with a black man at Tygerberg Hospital on Wednesday.
- New footprints and children's shoes were discovered on the beach Thursday morning.
- Suspicion Jocelyn is being “hidden” on a farm near Saldanha Bay in hopes of being sold for a high price.
- Suspicion of a mysterious room in the city hall where information about her disappearance may be kept.
SAPS calls for coordinated search efforts
Meanwhile, Saldanha Bay Mayor Andre Truter reposted a message from SAPS urging the community to comply with authorities.
The following was written there: “We welcome assistance from civilians in the search, but it must be properly coordinated and within the law.
“As the lead agency in the legally mandated investigation, the dedicated investigators in this case apply the necessary investigative principles as their work unfolds, with a view to bringing the matter to court if necessary. ”
