- The hand was found in the remains of a collapsed building on Victoria Street in George.
- The discovery came after two weeks of search and rescue operations at the construction site, in which 62 people were rescued and 33 were confirmed dead.
- The Western Cape government is conducting an investigation into the collapse, led by V3 Consulting Engineers.
The hand was found in the rubble of a collapsed building on Victoria Street in George, police said on Saturday.
Police spokesman Sergeant Christopher Spiess said officers were dispatched to the scene on Friday to inspect the remains of the building which collapsed on May 6.
There they were shown the hand that the guard had found earlier.
“The remains have been recovered and sent to the SAPS laboratory for forensic analysis to determine their origin and links to victims rescued during the search and rescue operation,” Spies said.

He confirmed that no further bodies had been found.
The discovery came just days after rescuers cleared the construction site after spending two weeks sifting through rubble looking for survivors.
62 people were rescued from the collapsed building, 33 of whom died.
It was initially thought that there were 81 people at the scene, but that number has since been revised to 62.
Western Cape councillor for local government and environmental affairs Anton Bredell previously told News24 that previous estimates were based on lists provided by contractors working on site.
