South Africans are debating whether Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams should win the tournament's Player of the Year award, Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament award or both at the African Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2023.
This follows South Africa's third-place finish on Saturday in the competitive tournament, which concludes in Ivory Coast on Sunday, February 11.

Bafana captain Ronwen Williams saves the dhow again
Bafana Bafana and Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) met at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan after losing to Nigeria and Ivory Coast respectively in the semi-finals of the tournament.
With neither team scoring after full time, the match went to penalties, with Bafana Bafana winning 6-5. With this, Williams was once again a hero with two saves and South Africa finished third in the 2023 Afcon.

The 32-year-old, who plays for DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns, is a huge addition to the SA national team. In Bafana's quarter-final match against Cape Verde, he saved an incredible four penalties.
Williams' heroics didn't end there, as he became the first South African goalkeeper to keep five clean sheets in a single major competition, surpassing former Bafana goalkeeper Andre Arendse's record for clean sheets. Ta. Furthermore, in Afcon's seven games, he has conceded just three goals and made a whopping 20 saves.

Tournament player?
While the shot-stoppers appear to have no players vying for the Goaltender of the Tournament award (aka Golden Gloves), it's not easy to determine who will win the Tournament Most Valuable Player award. But some South Africans have money for the Bafana captain.
