Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Peace Mabe wished Da Les a speedy recovery.
The Department of Sports, Arts and Culture (DSAC) has prayed for rapper Da LES's speedy recovery amid rumours that his family is begging for financial assistance after he suffered a stroke and was hospitalised.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture, we wish Da Les a speedy recovery and join his family, friends and fans in wishing him a full recovery and good health,” DSAC Deputy Minister Peace Mabe said.
“We had the opportunity to interact with his mother, who is currently in the United States, and conveyed our best wishes to her and her family. We have assured them of our continued support and encouragement,” Mabe said in a statement.
Rapper Leslie “Da Les” Mampe suffered a stroke on Friday, what would have been his 39th birthday, and his family says he is in stable condition.
“It is with deep sadness that the family of renowned South African musician Da Les informs the public that he suffered a stroke at his home on Friday 26th July 2024 and has since been admitted to hospital,” a statement from the Mampe family read.
“While his condition is stable, this remains a difficult time for his loved ones and his family asks the public to keep him in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Suspicion of donation
Online Publishing Jimoja The Mampe family claimed they were soliciting donations for the rapper's hospital bills.
The article claims that a memo was shared among close friends of Da Less in which they asked them to help the family raise funds to cover Da Less's medical expenses.

The article further claimed that the rapper's mother, Priscilla Mampe, “appreciates the help and kind acts in raising funds to cover his medical expenses.”
Citizen A response has yet to be received from the Mampe family regarding the above allegations.

DSAC community and media outreach officer Zama Sigkaw did not respond to The Citizen's inquiries about what kind of support Da Les' family is receiving from DSAC.
“In these difficult times, we want to show our love and support to Da Les' family and reassure them that the country is at their side. We pray for his speedy recovery so that he will be able to contribute back to our music,” the deputy minister concluded in his statement.
