Dundee United moved seven points clear at the top of the Scottish Championship with an emphatic victory over Morton.
Ross Docherty's header gave United the advantage and Glenn Middleton, who took a break from Tony Watt's ball, immediately fired home from close range.
Louis Molt scored from close range following a mishit by Craig Sibbald, and Watt capitalized on a mistake by Jack Baird to score the visitors' fourth goal.
Robbie Muirhead reacted well inside the penalty area and found the net from Morton's reaction.
With four more Second Division games to be played on Saturday, Raith Rovers can move back within four points of United with a home win against Partick Thistle. Three more rounds of matches will be played after Saturday's match.
Sixth-placed Morton trail Dunfermline by one point, while Airdrionians have a six-point lead over the Pars for the final spot in the promotion play-offs.
Morton director Dougie Imrie: “It's very disappointing. In the first half we gave Dundee United two poor goals and in the second half we gave them two poor goals from our point of view. It's always going to be an uphill battle. There's no excuses. We were really poor from start to finish.”
Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin: “As far as we are concerned, the job is done. We are getting a little bit better at the right times. Some goals were really good. We had to fight really hard to get every goal. It was important to win those individual battles.'' We cannot rest on our laurels now. We are in a great position. Keep pushing. ”
