An IFP lawmaker was shot dead in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal, and an investigation has been launched by the police's political homicide squad following his death.

On Wednesday, an IFP lawmaker was shot dead in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal.
National police spokesperson Brigadier General Atelenda Mate said the attackers also opened fire on a transport vehicle for academics, injuring four children and killing two.
Mate added that the triple killing prompted an investigation by the police's political homicide squad.
She said the attackers ambushed the councilor on R618 on Wednesday afternoon as he was dealing with a car problem.

“A group of armed men pulled up next to his car and fired multiple shots at the councilor, who sadly died at the scene from his injuries.
“The suspects then opened fire on a scholarship transport taxi that was transporting passing school children.
“Four children were shot and injured, two of whom, aged 11 and 12, sadly succumbed to their injuries.”
IFP spokesperson Mukuleko Hlenwa said the incident took place in Mtubatuba.
Hrenwa expressed shock and disappointment at the continued killings of political leaders in the state.
“While full details of what exactly happened are not yet available, it is extremely concerning that political assassinations continue unabated in KwaZulu-Natal.”
