Weeks later, the Springbok flyhalf's wife has opened up about the challenges of becoming a mother.
She said the transition has been both tough and fulfilling.
“I've always wanted to be a mother. It's not easy, but it's the best thing I've ever done. Motherhood is the most beautiful thing I've ever loved. It's incredible. It's incredibly difficult, rewarding, and life-changing.
“Everything changes, especially the way you see yourself and the world around you.”
Maryse also reflected on how she navigated the postpartum period, emphasizing the importance of self-compassion and mental health.
“First of all, PP (postpartum) is insanely hard. It's difficult for everyone and it's really important to be kind to yourself and focus on your mental health,” she said.
