Scheduled to return to court
Author Phamotse is scheduled to return to court this week after his case against the Khumaros was postponed multiple times.
In 2018, Famotse tweeted about an alleged sex tape that social media users concluded involved power couple Romeo and Basetsana Khumalo. The influential couple took legal action against Mr Phamotse.
In September last year, Mr Phamotse was found guilty of defamation, criminal damage and contempt of court, but due to a delay the author has not yet been sentenced.
Earlier this month, Ms Phamotse appeared in Randburg Magistrates' Court, where her defense team asked for a further postponement.
Sentencing was originally scheduled for October 24, 2023, but was later postponed to November 14. On this day, a decision was made to sentence Mr. Phamotse in 2024.
Phamotse's lawyer, Mpho Matonsi, argued in favor of an adjournment, citing the social worker's report and saying a conclusion needed to be reached before a verdict is handed down.
Ms Basetsana spoke of her relief when the verdict was handed down last year.
“This is for my children who have had to live in shame for the past five years, and for the legacy of our parents who raised us well. And today I want to thank everyone. I think… I mean, this is my man,” Khumalo said outside court. Last September.

Representing the state, senior public prosecutor Yusuf Baba said on Tuesday that Mr Khumalo, who had traveled from the UK for the case, was being treated unfairly.
Mr Matonsi, however, expressed concern over the state's sense of crisis, insisting he supported waiting and following the law rather than acting hastily.
“Ladies and gentlemen, there will be no prejudice if this matter is postponed. We must not be in a hurry. This case will finally be completed in a fair manner,” Matonsi said.
Mr Baba hit back in July, saying Mr Phamotse's tweets violated the former Miss SA's constitutional rights to dignity and privacy.
“It was terrible, it was horrible, it was so hurtful, it was so heartbreaking, it was unkind. That someone was going to wake up and attack people they didn't even know. That’s it.”
