South Africa faced a stalemate on Saturday night when Bafana Bafana and Cape Verde faced each other in the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The game lasted 120 minutes at the Stade Charles-Conant-Bagny de Yamoussoukro, but neither team was able to break the deadlock and a penalty was needed to break things up.
Ronwen Williams made four penalty saves in the penalty shootout, leading his team to a 2-1 victory after a goalless draw in regulation time.
Bafana will next face Nigeria in the semi-finals on Wednesday 7 February 2024 at 7pm.

“We're not underestimating Cape Verde. They're not a team with quality players like the big teams in Europe, like Morocco. But from what I've seen.” Coach Hugo Bruce said: citizen.
“They are one team on the pitch, the players are very disciplined and it will be very difficult to play against them. We need to reach our best level again tomorrow if we want to progress to the semi-finals.
“It's normal to start dreaming of the final little by little, but it's a big mistake to think that everything will be easier once Morocco is over.
“I would like to compare Saturday's Bafana game (against Cape Verde) to Tuesday's game (against Morocco). There is no difference, but it will be just as tough as Tuesday.”
