A Home Office employee is on trial for allegedly selling passports to foreigners for up to R3,000 each.

In February 2023, Mulondo allegedly processed fraudulent foreign passports at the department's Durban office.

On Thursday, KwaZulu-Natal Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo said Mlondo was suspected of receiving up to R3,000 for each document.
“An internal investigation revealed that he had used the details of a South African citizen and an ID photo of a foreigner. A case of fraud and corruption was reported at Durban Central Police Station and the case was opened for further investigation.” The books have been allocated to members of the Hawks,” Mhlongo said.
Mulondo briefly appeared in the Durban Special Commercial Crimes Court on Thursday before returning to prison.
The case was adjourned to May 6 for a bail application.
