The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) said it had no intention of forming a coalition with any other party at this time.
The party's leader, Berenkosini Hlabisa, was addressing the media at the National Results Operations Centre in Midrand on Saturday, adding that the party would take part in the Multi-Party Constitution (MPC) talks later in the evening.
“We are not desperately trying to form a coalition government for the sake of a coalition government,” Hlabisa said.
He indicated the IFP's national executive committee would also meet on Sunday to review the results and set a course for the future.
The IFP has so far received 610,457 votes, which equates to 3.9% support at the national level.
This is a slight increase compared to the 3.38% received in 2019.
Hlabisa said the IFP was happy with its results in the election and insisted that as a partner in the MPC it had achieved its goal of defeating the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal.
“The IFP looks forward to the first meeting of Parliament. We intend to be a game changer. We will be a strong voice for South Africans and the IFP will make informed decisions in the best interests of South Africans,” he said.
He commended the IEC for the good work it has done despite differences from some political parties over the capture of results.
“We understand that there will be cases where inconsistencies arise… The IEC understands that too much is at stake and we cannot afford to lose credibility. We also understand that we must take responsibility and right mistakes.”
