England leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed has left the India tour due to urgent family matters and has no plans to return home.
The 19-year-old was not selected for the fourth Test at Ranchi, which begins on Friday.
Ahmed's departure from the team is not related to his departure from the tour. The need for his return did not emerge until Eleven was announced.
He is scheduled to leave India later on Friday, but England have not named a replacement.
Ahmed's departure leaves England with a traveling squad of 14 players for the final two Tests.
The remaining two frontline spinners, Shoaib Basheer and Tom Hartley, will both play their fourth Test.
Ahmed made his debut at the age of 18 against Pakistan in Karachi in December 2022, making him the youngest player to play Test cricket for England.
The Leicestershire man played in each of the first three Tests of this tour, taking 11 wickets.
England have named three frontline spinners for two of the first three Tests, but this will be the case for the fifth Test at Dharamsala, which is likely to have the most favorable conditions for seam bowling of the tour. It would have been less likely.
Batsman Harry Brook withdrew before the start of the series due to personal reasons, while senior spinner Jack Leach injured his knee in the first Test and was sent home.
