Today, Linux Foundation AI & Data announced its newest sandbox project, Open Platform for Enterprise AI (OPEA).
OPEA aims to accelerate the adoption of secure and cost-effective generative AI (GenAI) for enterprises by promoting interoperability across a diverse and heterogeneous ecosystem, including search augmented generation (RAG). We are aiming for
At Intel Vision 2024, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger outlined the industry challenges and declared the intention to build an industry-wide open platform for enterprise AI. Today is the next step in that journey and Inter is on his ground floor.
At the beginning of this initiative, Intel plans to:
- Expose a technical conceptual framework.
- We are releasing a reference implementation of the GenAI pipeline on a secure solution based on Intel® Xeon® processors and Intel® Gaudi® AI accelerators.
- We continue to add Intel® Tiber™ Developer Cloud infrastructure capacity for ecosystem development, AI acceleration, RAG and future pipeline validation.
The RAG ecosystem continues to advance through the creation of new projects and innovations. Nevertheless, enterprises are challenged by the DIY approach as there is no de facto standard across components that allows them to select and deploy RAG solutions that are open, interoperable, and help them get to market quickly.
OPEA will work with industry to address these issues by standardizing components such as frameworks, architectural blueprints, and reference solutions that demonstrate performance, interoperability, reliability, and enterprise-grade readiness. is. This will help accelerate the adoption of his RAG solutions within enterprises and leverage innovation across the open ecosystem.
Open source projects have driven AI innovation even faster. One result of this evolution is the emergence of generative AI (GenAI). It is currently in a state of dynamic innovation, with technology and tool fragmentation as a byproduct. This fragmentation hinders enterprise adoption of GenAI and the immense value it brings to the business.
Developers tasked with realizing this value face a dizzying array of choices when incorporating GenAI.
At this early stage, open source collaboration allows us to establish a robust and concrete framework for building and evaluating composable GenAI solutions. With this in mind, Intel is proud to collaborate with several other industry partners to offer the Open Platform for Enterprise AI (OPEA).
OPEA is a new sandbox-level project within the LF AI & Data Foundation. OPEA's mission is to create an open platform project that enables the creation of open, multi-provider, robust, and configurable GenAI solutions that leverage the best innovations across the ecosystem.
“OPEA, with the support of the broader community, will address critical pain points in today's RAG deployment and scaling. It will also leverage the potential value that AI brings to businesses and our lives as a whole. It also defines a platform for the next phase of developer innovation,” said Melissa Evers, vice president and general manager of execution strategy, Software and Advanced Technologies Group.
