Ipswich Town dramatically retained their automatic promotion place in the Championship by beating Bristol City 3-2 with an 89th-minute goal from Leif Davies and coming from two goals down.
After a scoreless first period, City's Conor Chaplin hit the post with a corner kick in the 32nd minute, and Anis Mehmeti's shot deflected to give City the lead early in the second half.
Moments later, Naki Wells smashed into the frame of Ipswich's goal and Tommy Conway put City ahead with a header after Ahmed Al Hammadi made it 1-1.
But Chaplin headed home again at Town level, then Max O'Leary easily saved Al Hammadi's poor penalty with five minutes remaining, and Davies went ahead minutes later.
Ipswich were on the verge of scoring a fourth goal when Jack Taylor hit the post in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
With this win, Town maintain a two-point difference with third-placed Leeds, who have 28 points despite losing this season, while City remain in 13th place.
The match got off to a slow start. Kieffer Moore's low shot from the edge of the box in the 20th minute was easily saved after a Sam Morsy break, but it was the only shot of note in the first 30 minutes.
A corner kick in the 32nd minute was flicked on by Moore and found Chaplin from an angle, hitting City's back post, and five minutes later Wells had the visitors' first chance, saving a header at his near post.
Jason Knight gave City a golden chance to take the lead in stoppage time. Luke Woolfenden's loose pass was cut out by Wells, but the defender cut well back and deflected Knight's shot wide.
City took the lead after winning the ball inside their own half. Cameron Pring freed Mehmeti on the left and he leapt past three defenders into the box, firing a shot that deflected off Ulfenden's heel and into the right foot of Ipswich keeper Václav Hradky. It was written.
It should have been 2-0 five minutes later when Wells toyed with Cameron Burgess, evaded a second defender and his left-footed shot hit the corner of the post and the bar.
However, it was Town who equalized through four substitutions from Kieran McKenna. Wes Burns, one of the four substitutes, played down the right side to the goal line, passed the ball back to unmarked Al Hammadi, who was also substituted, and made a powerful move wide. -Feet in from 10 yards.
However, City regained control. The impressive Mehmeti cut in from the left to widen Hladky into a save, and Mark Sykes' wonderful cross was met by Conway with a pinpoint looping header.
After Pring brought down Barnes inside the penalty area, Chaplin glanced in Carling Davies' powerful free-kick from the left to equalize Town again, before the hosts looked to have a chance of victory with four minutes left. caught up with.
However, Al Hammadi's weak penalty was easily saved by O'Leary dropping down to the right.
Ipswich did not give up and despite a high ball from the back being deflected and Rob Dickie working hard to stop it, Davies took a good touch and fired a powerful low shot to earn a deserved goal.
There was still time for Taylor to hit the post in stoppage time before City scrambled clear as the Tractor Boys continued to show their promotion credentials.
Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna told BBC Radio Suffolk:
“Obviously I'm very proud of them tonight and it's too obvious to say, but the character we showed towards the end of the second half was great.
“One of the biggest moments for me was coming back after missing the penalty.
“We've come back from goals before, but to have a penalty awarded so late and not get it when we thought we had a chance to win the game, I think a lot of the players, the team, probably the stadium… will lose hope and become deserted.'' At that point.
“But this group, and this stadium tonight, just kept believing and ultimately reaped the rewards.”
Bristol City head coach Liam Manning told BBC Radio Bristol.
“I’m pretty frustrated, I’m pretty angry, and I’m annoyed that I keep saying the same thing at the end of the day.
“I think 90% to 95% of the game, everything went the way we wanted it to go and went the way we wanted it to.
“Then in the last five or 10 minutes we got dragged down emotionally and lost focus and ultimately got punished.”
