Rapper AKA's father says his son was “definitely assassinated” and police are close to solving the murder.
This Saturday, award-winning rapper Keenan “AKA” Jarryd Forbes and his close friend and celebrity chef Thebelo “Tibbs” Motsoane will be seen outside Durban’s Wish Restaurant on February 10th. It's been one year since he was murdered in “Format”.
He said this during a marathon two-hour interview on popular DJ Hazel Majard's podcast. In the hazel The slain rapper's father, Tony Forbes, said he had no doubt that his son was assassinated.

In response to Hazell's question about whether he believed AKA was “the target of a blockbuster,” Forbes said:
“He was definitely assassinated… It took a plan. It took resources. The guy walked around, aimed at Keenan, and shot him in the head. How about random?”
Forbes said he believed the second gunman was there to make sure “the mission was accomplished.”
He said he saw CCTV footage of his son being shot at point-blank range “to de-escalate the situation.”
Shocking footage that went viral on social media at the time showed a man wearing a white beanie walking towards AKA and Motsoane before firing a shot at AKA's head, killing him instantly. The gunman then crossed the road and disappeared.
A second gunman, who was seen waiting on a pole next to AKA's vehicle, drew his weapon and fired at the group from a different angle, before fleeing with the first attacker.
Motsoane is believed to have been killed by a second gunman.

“People with money behind them.”
“So the people with the money were behind it, they provided the money. People with access to resources.” mass country The rapper's father continued.
What the motive is…it's unknown at this point.
He added that he could not provide further details, saying he had been “briefed regarding the progress of this case and investigation other than what is in the public record.”
However, Forbes revealed that he believes police may be closer to solving the case because the family had detailed information about the murder and investigation.

His words echo the progress made by Police Minister Bheki Cele at a media briefing in Cape Town at the end of December last year.
Cele said the investigation into the high-profile murder was currently at an advanced stage and it was “only a matter of time” before the perpetrators were arrested.
“The fact that the getaway vehicle was found, the gun itself was found, and we've heard that some of the witnesses have protective orders, means this case is largely covered. We just need to catch that particular person,” the police minister revealed.

Proof it was a hit?

The newspaper cited sources in the security cluster who claimed that AKA and Motsoane were followed from King Shaka International Airport to a popular restaurant.

Another source said one of the suspects also committed the crime after AKA's fiancée Anele “Nelly” Tembe fell to her death from the 10th floor of Cape Town's Pepper Club Hotel in the early hours of April 11, 2021. He even claimed to have been seen at the scene.
“This person met with one of the suspects who was arrested on another charge. [allegedly] He was caught in the crossfire,” they said.
In May 2023, the NPA announced it would redirect what it had described as a suicide investigation into the death of Nellie, the daughter of KwaZulu-Natal businessman Moses Tembe.
