The Caine Prize for African Literature is a registered charity that aims to use annual literary awards to bring African literature to a wider audience.
Tumi 'Stogie T' Molekane has been announced as one of five jurors for this year's Caine Prize for African Literature.
“I am deeply honored to be a judge for the Caine Prize in African Literature,” the rapper said in a short statement.

The panel will also be chaired by award-winning Nigerian writer and 2024 Caine Prize finalist Chika Unigwe, as well as Sierra Leone artist Julian Kunkus and author and filmmaker Siphiwe.・Gloria Ndlovu and Ghanaian novelist Ayesha Haruna-Atta are also members of the panel.

The five will judge short story submissions from African writers, and the shortlisted novels and their authors will be announced in mid-July.
The jury will meet in person in September to select the winner from the five shortlisted authors and announce the winner at a ceremony in London in September.

Similarities to musical storytelling

Each writer shortlisted for the Caine Prize will receive £500, with the winner receiving a cash prize of £10,000. If the work being translated is selected as an award-winning work, the prize money will be divided between the author and the translator.
